Metabonomic Profiling
Metabonomics is defined as "the quantitative measurement of the dynamic, multiparametric, metabolic responses of living systems to patho-physiological stimuli or genetic modification".

Metabolic profiles can be used, in conjunction with statistical tools, for desease diagnostics, in toxicology and in other fields. The metabolite profiling has potentials as a tool for "functional genomics", for exploring gene functions in vitro and in vivo, in plants and humans.

The technique allows, for instance, to classify herbicides with unknown mechanism of action, to identify molecular markers in pharmacogenetics, doping control and clinical studies, such as metabolic disorders.

The Genechron Laboratory offers Metabonomic services for neonatal screening (Phenylketonuria, Citrullinemia, Tyrosinemia, etc.).

Analyses are carried out with a LTQ Orbitrap Discovery (Thermo Scientific). Orbitrap is an highly sensitive LC-MS system with up to 30K resolving power and fast scan rate. Featuring high resolution and excellent accurate mass capabilities, this hybrid LC-MS system achieves high throughput label-free profiling for differential expression. Its MS^n capability makes the instrument ideal for small molecule characterization and structural elucidation.
